It is very sad and embarrassing seeing our country gradually being pushed by this Political Vigilante groups to a future war and our stake holders seem to see nothing wrong with it.
Just last year September 23rd, 2018, we the above mentioned group came out with petition to disband all Political Vigilante groups to save our their country Ghana from a possible war in 2020. It was followed by a couple of press releases and campaigns. We also planned to go to court but some stakeholders called on us to give them the benefits of the doubt,
that the government was committed to protecting this nation, therefore this groups were going to be disband soon. With low snail pace nothing has been done, only for us to witness this unfortunate happenings in AYAWASO WEST WOUGON by-election that has lead to the Opposition party NDC pulling out of the election. It is unfortunate and undermine the democracy of the nation.
The videos and pictures we have seen and the evidence we are getting from the grounds clearly shows that our security agencies will not act unprofessionally but this is an activity of political vigilante group.
Our research that lead to creation and empowering some vigilante groups during 2016 election was as a result of Telensi, Chiripone and Atiwa by-elections.
Hearing some comments from the NDC, they were attacked unaware and will not relaxed anymore. Some of their supporters who were interviewed on live TV are calling on their leaders to provide them with armoury to face any opposition in the future. Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communication officer sounded a causion that the NPP will pay for what they did.
This seems light and normal but we need to sit up and call this groups to order so they don't turn to terrorist groups like other countries. Looking at their activities today clearly shows how organize and dangerous they are.
Let's put a stop to Political Vigilantism in Ghana now.
